Ayr Accommodation

About Ayr area

When you think of Scotland and golf, you probably think of St Andrews. And when you think of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, you probably think of Stirling. But Ayrshire is a place that deserves some consideration if these are the things that you are interested in.

Ayrshire, more specifically Prestwick Old Course, is home to the Open Championship which was first held here in 1860. And the Ayrshire tradition of Championship golf courses continues with Royal Troon and Turnberry. In addition to these famous clubs, you can play a round for a modest fee at a wide range of other Ayrshire courses.

Whilst almost everyone knows about William Wallace and the Battle of Stirling Bridge, or Robert the Bruce and his stunning victory at Bannockburn, far fewer people realise that both Wallace and Bruce were born in Ayrshire. Not only that, but Wallace struck his first blow against the English when he attacked their garrison in Ayr.

Of course, Ayrshire is well known as Robert Burns country and you can still visit many of the places that inspired his poetry.  An excellent new museum has been opened and it helps you to understand the significance and impact of his literary works within the context of the period he lived in. Think of him as an 18th century Bob Dylan and you sort of get the picture.

PLEASE NOTE: Several of our Recommended B&Bs closed in 2024 and the choice is now limited.  We will be visiting new places in 2025 and hope to have a better range of options soon.

In the Ayr area, we recommend:

  • An excellent budget accommodation option located centrally in Ayr but with a quiet off-street location.
  • 2 B&B’s / Guesthouses in one of Ayr's most desirable residential streets and within walking distance of Ayr town centre.
  • A townhouse B&B offering good value accommodation on a street that is just a short walk from the beachfront of Ayr.
  • A beautifully modernised Farmhouse providing comfortable B&B accommodation in the rolling countryside of Ayrshire (15 - 20 mins drive from Ayr centre)

Young Children are accepted in 2 properties, and pets are accepted by arrangement in 1.
