Isle of Mull Accommodation

About Isle of Mull

We are often asked which island we prefer, Mull or Skye. It’s hard to make comparisons as the islands are very different in character, but the Isle of Mull would be our choice. Mull doesn’t get as much attention as Skye and this is in part due to the fact that it hasn’t appeared in so many movies. But the fact that Mull is not as busy as Skye is one of its main advantages.

One of Mull’s great assets is the incredibly photogenic village of Tobermory where brightly coloured buildings line the waterfront of a sheltered bay.  Indeed, the whole island offers great photo opportunities at every turn. There are stunning beaches of white sand that can look tropical on a sunny day. Dark and moody-looking castles with legends of ghosts. Standing stones and abandoned villages where the timeless atmosphere can make your senses tingle.

And from the Isle of Mull you can do easy day trips to the adjacent islands of Iona, Staff and Ulva. Iona is regarded as the home of Christianity in Scotland and, like King Arthur’s “Avalon”, was the burial place of Kings and Queens from Scotland, Ireland and Norway. “Fingal’s Cave” on Staffa is a genuine wonder of nature that impresses everyone that sees it. And if you want to get away from it all, there’s the tranquil little Island of Ulva with its population of just 16 people.
