Inverewe Gardens were created by Osgood Mackenzie in the late 19th century as he inherited 12,000 acres of land and built a house with adjoining gardens.
Inverewe Gardens are quite exceptional as their location enables them to benefit from a mild climate all year round due to the constant warming effect of the Gulf Stream. As a result, a surprising range of exotic plants grow there, as well as temperate flora from the North and South hemispheres.
These are arguably the most beautiful gardens in Scotland, and if there is only one Scottish garden that you visit, it should be Inverewe. This is a popular attraction on many coach tours and the gardens can be busy, but they never feel over-crowded.
