Accommodation Guides

Don't ruin your holiday!

On your holiday, there’s nothing worse than arriving at your accommodation and realising it’s nothing like the website.

So what can you do about it?

You can avoid the risk of a disappointing stopover by buying a Secret Scotland Accommodation guide.

We personally visit all the accommodation that features in our guides and we only select places where we would wish to stay ourselves.

It’s simple

No one pays to be featured in our guides and we describe the properties in our own words, not the owners’. So when you buy a Secret Scotland Guide, you know you will get honest advice.

This means you can be confident of quality and value for money when you book accommodation that is recommended by Secret Scotland.

And...

With each Accommodation Guide, you also receive recommendations on where to find the best local:
  • Historic Sites
  • Scenic Spots
  • Tourist Attractions
  • Outdoor Activities
  • Festival & Events
  • Restaurants & Pubs

Frequently Asked Questions

When we select accommodation we are looking for properties that offer the same high standards that we would want if we were to stay there on our holiday. We judge properties by their cleanliness, décor, value for money and the friendliness of the host. And whenever possible, we try to find properties that have some unique feature or special charm. Unlike other websites, we do not take advertising fees or commission. Consequently, Secret Scotland has the freedom to only feature the places that merit recommendation and our descriptions are unbiased.

Secret Scotland provides you with all the necessary website and contact information for each of the B&B’s, guest houses, Inns etc. Many of the places we recommend have Online Booking. If Online Booking is not available, you can contact them directly by email to make your reservations. See a sample B&B information sheet.

As soon as you possibly can. Scotland becomes very busy from June to September and for these months it is advisable to book well in advance. Edinburgh in August is crazy busy and needs to be booked even further in advance. The Isle of Skye is another busy place in Summer and should be booked early. B&Bs on Islands will usually give preference to stays of 2 nights or more, and may even decline one night stays unless they have a one night vacancy between other bookings.
