The itinerary guides you from Glasgow to Oban, Skye, Inverness and Edinburgh. A choice of several day trips is available from each stopover location, so you can explore the Isle of Mull, the Road to the Isles, Skye, Loch Ness, Moray Coast, Dunrobin Castle, Glen Affric, the Borders, St Andrews and Edinburgh.

Arrive in Glasgow – We provide a stopover guide to the city's main attractions and some of its best restaurants. The guide includes tips on how to get into the city centre from Glasgow Airport. We also provide directions to possible places to stay in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

Glasgow to Oban – Travel north along the shores of Loch Lomond with opportunities for a detour to see a country house designed by famous Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. From Loch Lomond we will guide you over a mountain pass to the shores of Loch Fyne where there are some excellent seafood restaurants and a very picturesque 18th century village with an ornate castle. On the last leg of your route we provide 2 options:
• A direct route that takes you around Loch Awe where there are some interesting attractions to consider before arriving in Oban.
• Or a longer route via the ancient burial sites and standing stones of Kilmartin Glen.
The journey ends in Oban. This lively town has a great choice of seafood restaurants and you will find these detailed in our guide.

Stopover in Oban Area

Oban Day Trips - We suggest a choice of day trips from Oban to:
Day trip to the Isle of Mull, only 45 minutes by ferry from Oban. It’s a must when staying in Oban, as the island has distinctive castles and charming villages. In the evening, return to Oban to try some of our Seafood recommendations, or stay on Mull and dine at the restaurant that has its own fisherman.
Day trip on the Jacobite Steam Train Oban is not far from Fort William, where you can join the "Hogwarts Express" for a steam train ride out to Mallaig. This is one of the world's great scenic rail journeys.

Stopover in Oban Area

Oban to Skye – We suggest 3 options for the journey to Skye:
1) - The classic route along the "Road to the Isles" from Fort William to the Skye ferry. This route passes Glenfinnan and some Harry Potter film set locations ,
2) - A longer route through the wilderness landscape of Sunart to Join the "Road to the Isles" to the Skye ferry.
3) - An inland route through sections of the Great Glen, Glen Garry and Glen Shiel to join the west coast near the iconic Eilean Donan Castle.

Stopover in the Lochalsh area or Isle of Skye

Skye Day Trips – We provide a choice of day trips around Skye and Lochalsh area. You really need a minimum of 2 days on Skye and our guide gives you enough to fill even more days.
Discover Skye, a touring route around Skye with directions to craft shops, dramatic viewpoints, wildlife spotting locations, the Talisker distillery, tearooms (for the rainy days) and embarkation points for boat trips. More than you’ll be able to fit into just one day!
Day trip around Loch Alsh, this route takes you to Eilean Donan castle, Iron Age Brochs, a coastline where otters can be found and returns via the Glenelg Ferry (April – Sept)

Stopover in the Lochalsh area or Isle of Skye

Skye to Inverness – We provide directions for a drive through the Great Glen (Loch Ness) to Inverness, but along the route we suggest a detour to one of the best mountain viewpoints in Scotland. We give you a choice of routes to drive from Loch Ness to Inverness.

Inverness Day Trips – We provide a selection of day trips from Inverness that take you to:
• Loch Ness for a round trip tour of the Loch,
• Glen Affric, where you can see the last remains of the Ancient Caledonian Forest,
• Dunrobin Castle & the pretty villages of the Black Isle
• The Moray Coast, a historically rich landscape from Culloden to Elgin cathedral.

Stopover in the Inverness Area

Inverness to Edinburgh – Today’s route takes you South, and we have provided two sets of directions for the journey from Inverness to Pitlochry. Depending on your schedule, you can take a Direct route with several suggestions for journey breaks, OR a more Scenic route that weaves past forests, pretty villages and castles steeped in legends. We suggest a journey break in Pitlochry, where you have a choice of distilleries and a wealth of gift shops. After Pitlochry, you follow a fast route to Edinburgh that has detour options for a visit to Stirling.

Edinburgh Day Trips – We provide a choice of 3 walking routes around the city. There are enough attractions in Edinburgh to keep you busy for several days, however, we also provide you with directions for day trips out of Edinburgh that cover:
• the nearby castles of West & East Lothian,
• a journey south to Rosslyn Chapel and the Borders,
• a longer day trip to St Andrews and the coast of Fife,
• details of various day trips from Edinburgh by bus or train.
