St Mungo's Museum is a surprisingly diverese exhibition about religious life and art. It has exhibits on all the world's major religions, from Christianity to Voodoo. There is a video near the reception desk which provides an introduction to the different themes of the museum.
We didn't think that we would enjoy this attraction, but it is actually quite interesting when you take time to read the information boards related to each exhibit. Children will probably find that there is too much reading and not enough interactivity, so we don't recommend this as an attraction for families with children under 12 yrs.
The museum is split into 4 main area :
- Religious Art - with exhibits of Aboriginal art and an impressive bronze statue of Shiva, the Hindu Dance Goddess.
- Religious Life – explains the cultural traditions of the main religions, and how they deal with the major issues of life and death.
- Scottish life – a display focused upon the evolution of religion in Scotland
