St Andrews Accommodation

About St Andrews area

If it wasn’t for Golf, St Andrews would probably be largely ignored by the majority of tourists as it sits at the eastern tip of Fife and isn’t a place you’d normally pass through on the way to anywhere else.  But there is actually a lot more to this area than golf.

St Andrews is a historical, charming and vibrant little place with lots of good restaurants.  The town’s buzz comes from its youthful population of students attending St Andrews University, Scotland’s oldest university. There are lots of quirky old buildings clustered around the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral and it is a pleasure to simply wander aimlessly around the streets soaking up the atmosphere.

Whilst in this area, you ought to make time to explore the photogenic fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife. These pretty villages developed as a consequence of prosperous trade with the Low Countries and there are some Dutch influences to be found in the building styles. A notable feature of the houses in this area is the red ceramic tiles used on the roofs. These originated as ballast on the ships that came from Europe.
