TESTIMONIALS

"Over 100 pages with hundreds of links. It's an entire guide book! I truly am without words. I was expecting maybe 5-6 pages for each week. I have to say that I feel very, very guilty at the small amount we paid for the wealth of information you provided."

"Would recommend this website to anyone who is travelling to Scotland"

"I am delighted with my purchase of your Scenic Scotland 7 days tour, wish that I had found your website sooner. I would have saved many hours of uneducated web surfing and comparisons."

Dr. Jacinta Meharchand, Toronto, Canada.

"The Tours look great...Your site was the best all round site I found during my search."

Scenic Tour Flexi Days

Scotland Tours >> Browse Scotland Tours >> Scenic Tours >> 5 to 14 day Flexible Scenic Tour

Route sections marked in red on the map are Day Trips.

A flexible itinerary for a Scenic Scotland tour with a wide choice of Day Trips at each stopover location. Ideal if you want to stay 2-3 nights in the same place.

This tour itinerary can be adapted from 5 days to 14 days depending on how many of the day trip options you wish to follow.

The itinerary starts in Edinburgh and then guides you to Inverness, Skye and Oban. A choice of several day trips is available from each stopover location, so you can explore the Borders, St Andrews, Loch Ness, Moray Coast, Dunrobin Castle, Glen Affric, Isle of Skye, Mull and Argyll. Route directions are provided for a return to Glasgow or Edinburgh.

PLEASE NOTE: After payment, you will instantly receive an email that enables you to download your Scotland Tour Itinerary.

Arrive in Edinburgh and take in some of the city’s magical atmosphere by following our guide to the city’s many historical, cultural, supernatural, culinary and convivial charms. If the weather is good, try following our directions for walks around the Botanic Gardens or along the leafy riverside pathways of the Leith Walk.

Stopover in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Day Trips – There are enough attractions in Edinburgh to keep you busy for several days, but we also provide you with directions for day trips that cover:
• the nearby castles of West & East Lothian,
• a journey south to Rosslyn Chapel and the Borders,
• a longer day trip to  St Andrews and the coast of Fife,
• details of various day trips from Edinburgh by bus or train.

Stopover in Edinburgh

Edinburgh to Inverness - The tour heads north from Edinburgh and passes through Fife, with opportunities to visit a charming 18th century conservation village, before travelling on towards Pitlochry, where you might grab a quick visit to a distillery and another great castle. From Pitlochry, we give you the choice of a direct route, or a slower road  through the Rothiemurchus forest and Speyside to the historical and hauntingly sad battlefield of Culloden Moor.

Stopover in the Inverness Area

Inverness Day Trips – We provide a selection of day trips from Inverness that take you to:
• Loch Ness for a round trip tour of the Loch,
• Glen Affric, where you can see the last remains of the Ancient Caledonian Forest,
• Dunrobin Castle & the pretty villages of the Black Isle
• The Moray Coast, a historically rich landscape.

Stopover in the Inverness Area

Inverness to Skye – Starting with a drive along the shores of Loch Ness, you then turn westwards to the wilderness of Wester Ross and the mountains of Kintail. The route passes the distinctive Eilean Donan castle and then we guide you to the Skye Bridge, but you may wish to fit in a detour to see a very pretty fishing village before crossing into Skye. We provide directions for a tour of Skye, but warn you not to try to drive around the whole island as you really need a full day for this.

Stopover in the Lochalsh Area or Isle of Skye

Discover Skye – A full day touring route around Skye with directions to craft shops, dramatic viewpoints, gentle walks, wildlife spotting locations, the Talisker distillery, tearooms (for the rainy days) and embarkation points for boat trips. More than you’ll be able to fit into just one day!

Stopover in the Lochalsh area or Isle of Skye

Skye to Oban – Return to the mainland with options to go via the Skye bridge or the more romantic sea crossing to Mallaig. Today’s travelling takes you to Argyll and the area around Oban, but we have suggested some detours and alternative roads so that you may visit parts of Scotland that most tourists bypass.

The journey ends in the lively harbour town of Oban, “Gateway to the Isles”, where some of the best seafood restaurants in Scotland are found.

Stopover in the Oban area

Oban Day Trips – We suggest a second day in the Oban area and provide a choice of day trip options:

Day trip to the Isle of Mull, only 45 minutes by ferry from Oban. It’s a must when staying in Oban, as the island has distinctive castles and charming villages. In the evening, return to Oban to try some of our Seafood recommendations, or stay on Mull and dine at the restaurant that has its own fisherman.
Day trip on the Jacobite Steam Train. Oban is not far from Fort William, where you can join the "Hogwarts Express" for a steam train ride out to Mallaig. This is one of the world's great scenic rail journeys.
Day trip around Argyll to Inveraray. A tour route along one of Scotland's best roads for coastal scenery. This route takes you past Iron Age burial sites & standing stones, as well as visiting the lovely 1700's town of Inveraray with its ornate castle.

Stopover in Oban area

Oban to Glasgow or Edinburgh – Return to Edinburgh or Glasgow where you can spend the last day of your tour taking in some more of the sites, pubs and restaurants that are recommended in our guide. The route to Edinburgh includes the option of a visit to Stirling Castle.

Stopover in Glasgow / Loch Lomond area, OR Edinburgh
