About Royal Deeside
Royal Deeside is most famous as the location of Balmoral Castle, the Royal family’s Highland holiday retreat. As Scottish castles go, Balmoral is something of a new build as it was constructed in the 1850’s. Fortunately, there are lots of other interesting and historical castles to be visited in this area.
Something that you might not be aware of is the large number of stone circles that can be visited in a day trip around this region. The great thing about these Neolithic sites is that few other tourists know about them so you can soak up the timeless atmosphere without distractions. You might even feel like you’ve gone back in time.
Royal Deeside does tend to get a bit overlooked, but it has a lot to offer and we’d certainly encourage you to give it a go. After all, the Royal family has been coming back here for their holidays for the last 160 years so it must have something going for it.
