Secret Scotland Tours

This tour itinerary explores the scenery and seafood restaurants of Scotland's North West Highlands. The route travels in stages down the west coast, stopping along the way at villages with strong seafaring traditions and excellent seafood restaurants. On the return to Inverness you pass through the Great Glen and maybe spot the “big fish” in Loch Ness.

Arrive at Inverness – The guide provides an introduction to Inverness and directions for a short drive around the Black Isle, where you can find Dolphin spotting cruises and some very pretty villages.

Day 1 – From Inverness, you travel West through a wilderness of breathtaking scenery and contrasts. We suggest a detour to Ullapool where you can see the fishing boats coming and going with their catches of fresh seafood. The route then picks up the coast and we show you where to find magnificent beaches before guiding you to your first stopover, near the village of Gairloch where you are spoilt for choice with quality seafood restaurants.

Stopover in Gairloch or Laide.

Day 2 – Continues the exploration of the west coast of the Highlands with a journey through the timeless mountains of Torridon and onto the Applecross Peninsula. We then direct you, via more seafood restaurants, to the Lochalsh area. There you can choose to relax in a pub in one of the west coast’s prettiest villages, or maybe follow our guide to discover some great view points and distinctive Scottish castles.

The guide also includes a touring route for exploring Skye, but you would need to allow an extra day for doing this.

Overnight in the Lochalsh area or Isle of Skye.

Day 3 – Travel South-East towards the Lochaber area around Fort William. We supply two route options; one takes you inland through the rugged scenery of Glen Shiel, the other takes you via a car ferry to Morar and then follows the famous "Road to the Isles". On each route, we guide you to see film locations that might look familiar. Again we recommend some great restaurants to continue the seafood theme.

Stopover in Fort William area.

Day 4 – Is the end of the break and you travel back to Inverness along the length of the legendary Loch Ness. If you wish to escape the tourist trail we will show you an alternative and quieter road. Should you get back to Inverness early, you can follow our directions for a tour of the Moray Coast, including a visit to Culloden Moor.
