Appreciate the many different aspects of Scotland’s landscapes with this Scenic tour that enables you to stop and explore the country at a leisurely pace. You have six nights to travel the rugged west coast scenery of the Scottish Highlands discovering empty beaches and fishing villages. You then head east to enjoy the history and culture of Inverness, Royal Deeside, Perthshire and the Speyside whisky region.

Day 1 – Spend your first night in Glasgow or in a more peaceful location on the edge of the Trossachs and close to the celebrated shores of Loch Lomond. For your first night we have a list of recommended attractions and restaurants in the Glasgow / Loch Lomond area.

Day 2 – Your Tour of the Scottish Highlands begins with a choice of routes. You can select between:
• A journey along the banks of Loch Lomond before heading westwards over a mountain pass to Inveraray.
• A quieter route via a small car ferry to the Cowal Peninsula where you can also fit in a visit to Botanic gardens and the pretty village of Inveraray. The day ends in a choice of locations around Loch Fyne. We guide you to the castle and home of the Duke of Argyll, or you can follow our directions to find an active fishing village with some excellent restaurants.

Day 3 – Explore the mixed landscape of Argyll with a route that goes via sea lochs, glens and ancient monuments. Along the road to Oban, you can follow in the footsteps of Kings by standing on the footprint engraved in the coronation stone of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada. The route has detour options to explore pretty seaside villages where you can join boat trips to see whales. From the bustling town of Oban, you head along the coast towards Loch Leven with opportunities to visit castle strongholds and the hauntingly atmospheric Glencoe.

Day 4 – Heading north, the tour guides you into the wilderness and dramatic scenery of Wester Ross. We suggest 3 options for the journey to the Skye & Lochalsh area: 
1) - The classic route along the "Road to the Isles" from Fort William to the Skye ferry. This route passes Glenfinnan and some Harry Potter film set locations , 
2) -  A longer route through the wilderness landscape of Sunart to join the "Road to the Isles" to the Skye ferry.
3) -  An inland route through sections of the Great Glen, Glen Garry and Glen Shiel to join the west coast near the iconic Eilean Donan Castle.

Day 5 – There is so much to do in this part of Wester Ross that we recommend staying 2 nights here. On Day 5 you can follow our suggested route for an Isle of Skye tour, or follow the guide to find some ancient brochs (stone tower houses). We provide directions for a choice of gentle walks on the Isle of Skye.

Day 6 – On the move again, the tour takes you north via Torridon and the splendour of Loch Maree. Along the route there are detour suggestions to discover the remote Applecross peninsula, a magnificent beach of pink coloured sand and a tiny village on the shores of Loch Torridon. At the end of  this day, you can take a walk in a Botanic garden, or a more energetic climb to a waterfall. And after your exercise, we can highly recommend a cozy little bar / restaurant right beside the sea.

Day 7 – Great beaches await you on Day 7’s route. There is tremendous variety in the landscape here, with wide open sandy beaches, steep sided sea lochs, wooded gorges and open moors surrounded by towering mountains. The journey ends at Ullapool or Lochinver, which are both active fishing ports, where you should be able to see fresh harvests from the sea being unloaded. The guide also includes directions for a tour around the dramatic mountains of the Inverpolly Nature Reserve.

Day 8 – Our guide gives you several direct and indirect options for the voyage east to Inverness. You can choose to dwell longer in the west and explore the distinctive towering mountains of Inverpolly. Or you can opt to head east for a visit to an amazing Highland castle with architecture like a French chateau and then take a tour of the distillery that produces the Scots’ favourite malt.

Day 9 – A second day in Inverness with a wide variety of options. We provide a selection of day trips from Inverness that take you to: 
• Loch Ness for a round trip tour of the Loch, 
• Glen Affric, where you can see the last remains of the Ancient Caledonian Forest,
• The Moray Coast, a historically rich landscape.

Stopover in Inverness / Black Isle area

Day 10 – Our directions lead you to Culloden Battlefield, and Cawdor Castle before heading south to the Spey Valley with its famous whisky names. The route ends in the forested countryside of Royal Deeside where you may even glimpse the Queen at Balmoral, her Scottish holiday retreat. Optional routes are provided for exploring the distilleries of Speyside, OR for taking a tour of Deeside to visit some well preserved castles that are complete with furnishings.

Day 11 – There are many great castles to see in Royal Deeside so Day 11 gives you time to enjoy the area before taking a drive to Perthshire and the Tay Valley. You can visit a choice of distilleries, follow woodland walks to waterfalls, drive some very picturesque loch side roads, explore one of the most impressive of Scottish castles or just relax in the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry.

Day 12 – The last day of the tour and time to journey southwards to Edinburgh or Glasgow. We have provided a choice of routes for the drive to Edinburgh; a direct route, or a longer scenic route that visits the Trossachs and Stirling castle.

The route to Glasgow includes directions for a detour to visit Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
