Day 1 – Arrive in Edinburgh and take in some of the city’s magical atmosphere by following our guide to the city’s many historical, cultural, supernatural, culinary and convivial charms.

Day 2 – Explore Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. In the afternoon you can follow our directions to more castles and grand country houses within the Edinburgh area.

Day 3 – Visit Stirling, site of historic battles and the excellently preserved Stirling Castle. We then guide you to Perthshire to see the ancient crowning place of Scottish Kings and a lovely conservation village that has changed little since the 1700’s.

Day 4 – Head north to the Castle Country of Royal Deeside, and take a route that follows an old Military road built to control the rebellious Jacobite Highlanders. We suggest alternative routes that take you away from the busy main roads to explore the forests around the Queen’s Balmoral estate.

Day 5 – Another day to explore Royal Deeside with its haunted castles and turreted tower Houses full of history, ghosts and surprises. Or you may decide to simply appreciate the beautiful Deeside scenery, and discover the charms of the “Granite City” of Aberdeen.

Day 6 – Drive over a dramatic mountain pass into the heart of the Speyside whisky region. You have the choice to visit more castles or to notch up some distillery visits.

Day 7 – A day for exploring the Inverness area: follow our guide to the Black Isle, whisky distilleries and the fairytale splendour of Dunrobin Castle.

Day 8 – Travel from east to west coast via the mysterious Loch Ness. We offer the choice of the tourist route and its various monster exhibitions, or quieter roads where you can stop to appreciate the beauty of the Lochs. Continue to Argyll where you are staying the night.

Day 9 – We suggest a trip to one of our favourite spots in Argyll: the fishing village of Tarbert, with its excellent restaurants and lively pubs. Drive along Loch Fyne towards the distinctive black & white painted town of Inveraray.

Day 10 – Shows you the way back to the cities via Scotland’s largest Loch or you may choose the option of a longer journey through the Cowal Peninsula to return, via a small ferry, across the Clyde.
