A four day guide to discover the history of Edinburgh, its many castles and the ghosts that linger there. This itinerary also takes you on day trips to East & West Lothian, The Borders and Stirlingshire. You can visit Edinburgh & Stirling Castle as well as a choice of Royal Palaces, Coastal Fortresses, Grand Stately Homes and Border Abbeys.

Day 1 – This Edinburgh based tour, starts with a visit of the capital to take in some of the city’s magical atmosphere by following our guide to the city’s many historical, cultural, supernatural, gastronomical and convivial charms.

Day 2 – A choice of day trips from Edinburgh to some of the many Castles, Grand Country houses and pretty villages in the Lothian area. Sites include the palace where Mary Queen of Scot’s was born, a majestic Stately home a stone’s throw from the Forth Rail Bridge, a cliff top fortress and a distillery too.

Day 3 – A day trip that heads South from Edinburgh and into the Scottish Borders, an area of rolling hills, medieval abbeys and grand country houses. The route takes you to the following places:
• Rosslyn Chapel, now famous for its associations with Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code”.
• Peebles, a pretty market town on the banks of the River Tweed.
• Traquair House, where time seems to have stood still since the 1700’s.
• Abbotsford House, the country home of Sir Walter Scott.
• Melrose, a charming village beside the ruins of a once grand Abbey.
• Dryburgh Abbey,  chosen by Sir Walter Scott as his burial place.

Day 4 – Follow our Edinburgh guide for suggestions of delightful walks and additional places of interest in the capital. If time allows, you can follow our directions for a day trip to Stirling and its surroundings, where there are more castles, historical sites and pretty villages to discover.
