TESTIMONIALS

"Over 100 pages with hundreds of links. It's an entire guide book! I truly am without words. I was expecting maybe 5-6 pages for each week. I have to say that I feel very, very guilty at the small amount we paid for the wealth of information you provided."

"Would recommend this website to anyone who is travelling to Scotland"

"I am delighted with my purchase of your Scenic Scotland 7 days tour, wish that I had found your website sooner. I would have saved many hours of uneducated web surfing and comparisons."

Dr. Jacinta Meharchand, Toronto, Canada.

"The Tours look great...Your site was the best all round site I found during my search."

From the battle-scarred castles of Edinburgh and Stirling this tour leads you north to the abundant variety of grand tower houses in the famous castle country of Deeside. The route then visits the impregnable fortress built to crush the Jacobite cause, the beautiful castle of Macbeth, the extravagant home of the Duke of Sutherland and much, much more.

Your Guide will be instantly available to you by email after credit card payment.

• the nearby castles of West & East Lothian,
• details of various day trips from Edinburgh by bus or train.

Stopover in Edinburgh

Day 3 – A short drive takes you to Stirling, site of decisive battles and Stirling Castle, arguably the most important castle in Scotland's history. We then guide you to Perthshire to see the ancient crowning place of Scottish Kings and a lovely conservation village that has changed little since the 1700’s. The day ends in the Pitlochry area. The guide includes directions for a Scenic tour of this area, but you should really allow an extra day for this.

Stopover in Pitlochry / Aberfeldy Area

Day 4 – Head north to the Castle Country of Royal Deeside, and take a route that follows an old Military road built to control the rebellious Jacobite Highlanders. We suggest alternative routes that take you away from the busy main roads to explore the forests around the Queen’s Balmoral Castle. The guide includes directions to some gentle woodland walks.

Stopover in Royal Deeside

Day 5 – Another day in Royal Deeside to explore some of the day trip options provided in the guide. We give you the following choice of routes:
• A day trip around the many well preserved castles of Aberdeenshire,
• A journey over the Cairngorm mountains to explore the whisky distilleries of Speyside,
• A guide to the main attractions of nearby Aberdeen.

• Loch Ness for a round trip tour of the Loch,
• Glen Affric, where you can see the last remains of the Ancient Caledonian Forest,

Day 8 – Cross the country from east to west via Loch Ness and the Great Glen. You can follow the “Nessie” trail or take a lesser known road for a more peaceful experience. The route takes you past the iconic Urquhart Castle & Castle Stalker, but there are also some lesser known castles to be discovered. The directions contain several choices of alternative route so you can select to explore places such as Glenfinnan and Glen Coe. The journey ends in the lively harbour town of Oban, where we can recommend several seafood restaurants.

Stopover in Oban Area

Day 9 – We guide you south through a part of Scotland that is rich with archaeological sites from the Iron age and earlier. You can visit the ancient capital of the Scots and see if your foot fits the stone where the Kings of Dalriada once stood. You also have the option of a detour to a fishing village which is one of our favourite places. The guide then takes you along the shores of Loch Fyne towards the distinctive black & white painted town of Inveraray. This small town has an excellent museum and is home to the ornate castle of the Dukes of Argyll.

Stopover in Loch Fyne Area

Day 10 – Travel back to Glasgow or Edinburgh from Inveraray – we provide 2 route options to return via Loch Lomond OR the Cowal Peninsula. The latter option takes you along the peaceful shores of Loch Eck, with a possible stop at a great little pub where you can enjoy a drink whilst cooling your feet in the Loch.
