Once again the diary has been updated very late, but this time we have a very good excuse.
We haven't yet managed to have a Honeymoon, but we did manage to fit in a self indulgent weekend in a well known and very expensive hotel at Loch Tay!
To be honest, the hotel that we stayed in was not our first choice and it is not included in our guides as we feel it is a bit over-priced (£12 for 2 drinks is not just over-priced, it's practically robbery!). Unfortunately, our first choice hotel (which is in our guides) was fully booked due to a car rally in memory of the Scottish racing driver Colin McRae.
The hotel booking was not the only thing that didn't go to plan! We left home early on a sunny Saturday with good intentions of doing a climb up Ben Lawers. From the summit of Ben Lawers, it is said, you can see from the East coast to the West Coast of Scotland. Not on the day we tried to climb though!
With no apparent respite in the drizzle, we decided to abandon the climb and drove on to Glen Lyon for a bowl of soup at the Bridge of Balgie Post Office & Cafe.
The road through Glen Lyon is one of our favourite drives, but it is a difficult road to work into a tour route as it doesn't really go anywhere and it takes a long time to get to where it does go... if you know what I mean. The nice thing about this road is the absence of traffic and the pleasure of just gently cruising along tree lined lanes at 30mph. It is certainly worth taking it slow on this road as you can sometimes get lucky and see Red Squirrels by the road side. We were lucky, but we weren't quick enough with the camera to get a photo.
However, we did get some great photographs of the amazing reflections in the mirror smooth waters of Loch Tay on a still Autumn morning.
