Hi Mike & Aurelia,

We're home again from a fantastic 10 days holiday in Scotland. Of all the traveling we've done over the past 30 years, (and it's been a lot, since this is our 4th time living abroad) this holiday ranks WAY up at the top of the list for satisfying vacations.

Thanks to your able and expert guidance, we discovered charming, hidden parts of Scotland we'd have never found on our own. We journeyed down beautiful, backwoods roads complete with trees arching overhead and stone fences alongside. We also traveled over windswept, high mountain passes with amazing views and along small coastal roads where we felt alone to drink in the grandeur of the scenery. Your many suggestions for detours were spot on -- while there isn't time to do everyone of them, we were spoiled for choice. Using your detailed information, we were able to choose each day just the things that interested us most and travel enough to feel satisfied but not so much as to feel harried. This is absolutely the best way I can imagine to undertake a driving vacation of Scotland! Now, where are we going to find "Secret Holland" or "Secret Portugal" ? Or, for that matter, any of the other countries we'd love to explore in as much detail and really see the best back roads.

We were glad to have your candid suggestions about which attractions are worthwhile. Vacation time is always too short, so spending our time seeing Blair and Crathes castles made real sense -- we saw great history and were able to skip other, less valuable attractions.

Your accommodations guides helped us to find lovely places to stay, with uniformly helpful, friendly hosts. We especially enjoyed Scotholm in Connel and Auchenhow Cottage in Milngavie near Glasgow. Both were elegant, yet comfortable B&Bs that felt extra special -- we were sorry to leave each one. The suggestions for places to eat also hit home with us - knowing that you'd been to each of these places and would choose to recommend it further made our dining choices much easier and more certain. We had great food at Cafe Ariba in Portree on Isle of Skye and at the Tickled Trout in Milngavie. We also enjoyed good meals at the George Hotel in Inveraray, the Falls of Lora Hotel in Connel and of course at the Badachro Inn. Your suggestion of smoked mussels from the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar led to our tastiest picnic of the whole holiday.

Each day of our holiday was just grand - we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves knowing that we were in great hands and needed only to follow the excellent routes you'd set out for us. Thanks, Mike, for creating a simply fabulous itinerary. It really made our vacation supremely pleasant and memorable.
