The Famous Grouse Experience and the Glenturret Distillery are the same company. Glenturret is the malt whisky produced here, while the Famous Grouse is the blended whisky that is based upon the Glenturret Malt. It has the distinction of being the most visited distillery in Scotland.

The Famous Grouse Experience offers 3 different types of tour:

  1. The Glenturret Distillery Tour, which is like a tour of any other distillery in Scotland and shows you the process of making a malt whisky.
  2. The Experience Tour which is much more interesting and explains the process of making whisky and creating a blend (Famous Grouse). There are 2 twists at the end of the tour: a) the Famous Grouse takes centre stage in an interactive video show, and b) your ability to detect different aromas is tested.
  3. The Malt Tasting Tour is like the Experience Tour plus a tasting of 5 different malts.

The Famous Grouse Experience, like Dewar's World of Whisky, is a more modern interpretation of the distillery visit than you will find in most distilleries. As a result, it is very good entertainment for the whole family, but maybe a little bit too "theme park" for the whisky purists.
