The Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art is housed in the very attractive Royal Exchange Building that dates from 1778. The building has been adapted to be the city’s centre for Modern Art and it features a continually changing display of exhibitions.

We have to say that we don’t really understand the “Artistic” value of most of the displays, but the building has some lovely features and the café is a good place for a break. Worth a quick visit as it won’t cost you anything and it is close to George Square and Buchanan Street. There are also some nice street cafes around the gallery.

In front of the Gallery you can see a statue of the Duke of Wellington upon his horse. It has become a local tradition to place a traffic cone on his head and the City Council has given up trying to remove it. The steps around the gallery are also a popular hang out for weird looking “Goth” kids. They usually look scarier than they are.
