Bruichladdich was closed down in 1995 and remained closed until an independent consortium of whisky enthusiasts raised enough money to buy and re-open the distillery in 2000. The recovery of the distillery is almost a Cinderella like story and the optimism and enthusiasm of the staff is infectious.
Bruichladdich is a very traditionally made whisky. There are no computers controlling the production process and the emphasis is very much on producing a whisky that is a hand crafted product.
In keeping with the distillery’s loyalty to the islanders, the bottling of the whisky takes place at the distillery and Bruichladdich is the only Islay distillery to do this.
There is a distillery shop for visitors to call in at, but pre booking tours is advised.
