Auchindrain Museum is a unique example of an original 18th century Highland township. Most other villages of this type were destroyed by the Highland Clearances.
The village survived the Highland Clearances and the last inhabitant only left in the 20th century. The township is a collection of different homes and farming buildings that are all decorated with period furniture and farming tools. It really does look as if the occupants will be coming back home soon.
It’s not big and not a major attraction, but it’s interesting to see how people used to live in Scotland in these times. And it’s great for children as they can explore the houses.
It is located about 6 miles south of Inveraray, on the A83 to Lochgilphead, and is easily seen from the road.
