This is an attraction in 3 parts:

Armadale Castle: is the romantic ruin of one of the MacDonalds main residence. It’s very often hired for weddings as it’s on a great setting by the sea. But there’s not much to see as you can’t get inside the ruined castle. However the remains are beautiful, including the walls and the old staircase.

The Gardens and Nature Trail: they surround the castle, and they really are the main reason to visit the site. The gardens are beautifully landscaped with a few sculptures and pretty flowers, while the trails take you to the hills around, with great views over the castle and the sea.

Museum of the Isles / Clan Donald Centre: this is very much a museum about the MacDonalds of Skye, so if you’re into clan history then this is for you. There’s a lot to read though, all of it very interesting if you have an hour to spare and if you are interested in the largest Clan in the world.

Our verdict: unless you really want to learn about the MacDonalds or don’t mind paying £ 4.90 to go for a walk, don’t bother.
